Unit Title-How we express ourselves

Central Idea: Exploring our thoughts and ideas can help us come to new understandings about ourselves and the world around us.


We will be exploring our thoughts creatively and communicating them through pictures and images.

We will also be using our thoughts to think in a positive way and communicate/share these ideas orally with our friends


This week in Year 1 we will be reading and wondering about the story

'Peter and the Wolf'

On Tuesday 1st June we will be gong to the theatre to see
 'Peter and The Wolf.'
We will be following and creating story maps to help us write stories.
Reading a variety of stories and discussing how imaginations develop and create stories.
Continue sending home Guided Reading books and questions.
Watch out for it in your child's book bag one day this week!
Please encourage your child to answer questions about the book and remember to give a positive comment in the pink communication diary!

In Maths we are focusing on money.
Recognising coins and notes and counting totals.
Using money to complete addition and subtraction questions.
Buying items and finding the total and giving change from given amounts.

Mental maths calculations related to addition and subtraction and counting in
2's, 5's and 10's.


Role Play area is ready for action with lots of costumes and a changing room!....
Who shall I be? What shall I do? Where shall I go?

Communicating our ideas and thoughts through role play and drawings and writing.
A puppet show area is available for children to make up stories and entertain their friends.

Don't forget we are dressing up as book characters on Monday 7th June...hope you have your costume ready!
On Thursday 10th June we are having our pirate adventure, don't forget to wear your PE kit and have a pirate hat or bandana!
