Music

Overview of the Performing Arts

The Performing Arts program at Glenealy aims to develop in our students an appreciation for music , drama and dance with an emphasis on the practical experience of performing in public. Music is taught by a full time specialist teacher. From class one to class six students will be exposed to different styles of music and will have the opportunity to sing, dance, listen, play and compose.

The student's understanding and enjoyment of music is developed through performing a wide variety of songs and instrumental pieces. In class the students are encouraged to make expressive use of musical elements, with emphasis on responding to and evaluating music from different times and cultures. Students are introduced to basic music theory and by class six should be working towards becoming musically literate.

Glenealy has a commitment to ensuring that students are exposed to new developments in music and the performing arts. Ensuring that the quality of the program is maintained and improved wherever possible and that our students continue to be enthused and stimulated. This should ensure the continued successes of our students in the performing arts stream and maintain Glenealy's highly regarded reputation for Music and the Performing Arts.

Ensembles

There are two extra-curriculum ensembles that run on a weekly basis at Glenealy, these are the Orchestra and the Choir.

All students in classes 4, 5 and 6 take part in band lessons as part of the weekly music provision.

Matilda Sedan Chair Race and Bazaar

Each year the school is invited to take part in providing entertainment for the Matilda Bazaar. This is a major fundraising event for the Matilda Hospital. It is an excellent opportunity for the students to act as ambassadors for the school community as well as gain valuable performance experience.
